Spring Football In-Season Mentorship Program
The Spring Football Mentorship Program is a structured, 9-week film development program designed to support athletes throughout the Calgary Spring football season.
Program Start: Week of Sunday, March 22
Program End: Week of Sunday, May 17 (projected first week of playoffs)
Duration (Weeks): 9 (weekly) or 5 (biweekly)
Session Length: 45 minutes
Platform: Virtual (Google Meets)
Program Structure
Biweekly meetings will follow the same week 1 structure but include half of the weekly film development sessions.
Week 1 – Pre-Season Planning Session
Conducted prior to the first regular-season game.
-
Establish individual season goals
-
Review the upcoming opponent film
-
Define position-specific performance focus
Weeks 2–9 – Weekly Film Development
Each week includes:
-
Breakdown of the athlete’s game film
-
Review of the upcoming opponent film
-
Position-specific grading using a structured evaluation rubric
Sessions are structured and progression-focused. This is not a highlight review or an unstructured conversation.
Position-Specific Grading Rubric
All coaches follow a standardized grading rubric specific to each position. The rubric is used to:
-
Track weekly progression
-
Identify strengths and performance gaps
-
Maintain accountability and session structure
-
Provide measurable feedback
At the end of the program, athletes receive a Season Reference Report including:
-
Development themes
-
Areas for improvement
-
Grading trends
-
Coach evaluation notes
This report is shared internally with RAW summer field coaches and future mentorship coaches to ensure development carries forward.
End of Program Structure
If the athlete does not make the playoffs:
The final session (Week of May 17) becomes a comprehensive season review and final evaluation.
If the athlete advances to the playoffs:
Athletes may choose to add additional sessions to continue working with their coach through the completion of their season.
Playoff sessions are optional add-ons and are not included in the initial 5 or 9-week structure.
Integration With Summer Development
Performance trends identified during the spring season are compiled and implemented into the upcoming summer field programming. Identified weaknesses are addressed directly within training plans.
Accountability & Quality Control
-
Coaches are onboarded on rubric usage and structured session delivery.
-
All sessions are 45 minutes and occur weekly or biweekly.
-
Sessions are recorded and reviewed by program management for quality control.
-
If session standards are not met, sessions may be refunded, or the coach reassigned.
Athletes are placed with a coach by management to ensure positional fit and developmental alignment. Coach selection is not athlete-directed.
Scheduling & Onboarding
All scheduling is managed directly by program management.
During onboarding:
-
Management coordinates availability with both the athlete and coach
-
A consistent weekly meeting time is established
-
All session dates are confirmed
-
Calendars are finalized and locked in prior to the first meeting
This ensures clarity and accountability from the start of the program.
Coach Pairing & Placement
Athletes are paired with a coach based on:
-
Position
-
Age and level of play
-
Developmental needs
-
Coach availability
Coach assignments are determined by program management to ensure proper fit and alignment within the mentorship structure.
Depending on availability, some athletes may be offered a selection of coaches within their position group.
Athletes who register earlier will have access to a wider range of available coaching options. As coach availability fills, placements will be assigned based on remaining capacity.
All final coach pairings are confirmed during onboarding before the first scheduled meeting.
