Championship Saturday is in the books, and it delivered exactly the kind of day a playoff finale should. Six title games across six divisions, a pair of one-point finishes, a shutout, and a 50-point explosion. By the end of the afternoon at Shouldice Park, every division had a new champion.
U6 Championship
NW Cardinals 38, SW Cardinals 8
The top-seeded NW Cardinals capped their run with a dominant 38-8 win to take the U6 title. The rushing attack carried the day, led by Anthony Greco with two scores on the ground and a pair of two-point converts, while Beau Summers, Anthony Woodson, and Sully Espina each added a touchdown. The defense set the tone early and never let the SW Cardinals find a rhythm. A complete team performance to close the season.
U8 Championship
NW Cardinals 19, NW Bird Gang 18
The NW Cardinals made it three one-point thrillers in a row to win it all, holding off the NW Bird Gang 19-18 in the U8 final. Vaughn Sourisseau ran for two scores and Lennon Mulloy added another to power the champions. For the NW Bird Gang, John McNary connected with Brayden McFarlane on a touchdown and Connor Erdos and Eli Woodson each found the end zone, but they came up a single point short. After winning their semifinal by the same 19-18 margin, the NW Cardinals proved they know how to finish close games.
U10 Championship
SW Cardinals 34, NW Night Train 24
The SW Cardinals brought their best to the biggest stage, taking the U10 title 34-24 over the NW Night Train. Tucker Smith was the story, going a perfect 4-for-4 through the air with four touchdown passes, spreading them to Benson Bigley, Deacon Gingras, James Hunt, and Eski Makin. Bigley also returned an interception for a score and added a convert. The NW Night Train answered with a balanced ground game, getting touchdowns from Easton Headley, Rory Hofer, Cooper Laycock, and Wyatt Laycock, but the SW Cardinals’ passing attack was too much. A few standouts deserve recognition: Benson Bigley for playing both ways, Tucker Smith as a league-leading quarterback, and Eski Makin, a seven-year-old playing up in U10 who finished with eight total touchdowns on the season.
U12 Championship
SE Cardinals 20, NW Cardinals 8
The SE Cardinals closed out their season with a 20-8 win over the NW Cardinals to claim the U12 crown. Levi Sullivan led the way, throwing a touchdown to Ira Wirsta and running for two more scores of his own. The NW Cardinals got a touchdown connection from Everett Troyer to Connor Balla but could not keep pace. It was a strong team effort all year, with a few players new to football. Levi Sullivan deserves recognition for welcoming those new players to the sport and being a strong leader and supporter for the whole team, on top of leading the division in rushing touchdowns. Ira Wirsta also turned in an outstanding shutdown defensive performance in the final, recording four sacks and a safety.
U14 Championship
SAT Cardinals 24, NW Tillmans Troopers 22
The closest title game of the day went to the SAT Cardinals, who edged the NW Tillmans Troopers 24-22 to win the U14 championship. John Evangelista hit Jace Mullen for a touchdown, and the defense came up with the plays that mattered, as Greyson Brodie and Easton Hart each returned interceptions for scores. The NW Tillmans Troopers fought right to the final whistle behind Remi Clattenburg, who threw three touchdowns to Christian Baker, but the SAT Cardinals held on by two.
U16 Championship
SE Bird Gang 21, NW Marvins Marvels 6
The SE Bird Gang capped the day with a 21-6 win over the NW Marvins Marvels to take the U16 title. Tanner Hill was perfect when it counted, completing all three of his pass attempts for three touchdowns, two to Jackson Groff and one to Parker Newbold. Groff also added a sack on defense and Newbold converted the extra point. The SE Bird Gang defense limited the Marvins Marvels to a single score and closed out the championship in style.
